Counseling, an interpersonal helping relationship, focuses on assisting persons to explore thoughts, feelings, and behaviors with an emphasis on enhancing their quality of life. Community Support Services provides individual and group therapies as part of the continuum of recovery. The counselor assists the individual to establish goals to provide a path toward positive change.
Upon referral to individual counseling, the person will be matched to an agency counselor. During the initial session, the counselor will explore history, current stressors, and begin to develop counseling goals. Fifty minute sessions are typically scheduled weekly or bi-weekly, depending on the individual’s needs.
At times, it may be beneficial for persons to participate in therapeutic counseling groups with individuals with like concerns. Group sessions are held weekly. The current group therapy offerings include the following:
- Anger Management
- Insights - For persons with mental illness and substance use concerns
- PTSD - For persons with a history of traumatic experiences
